  • Established track record in economic development and partnership work having resulted in a number of regeneration programmes and projects. Since 1979, the Industrial Development Programme has assisted 180 business to start-up or grow and has created over 6,000 jobs. 

  • A network of local business support services offering business planning, marketing advice, etc. and which are well regarded by key customers. 

  • An established education and training infrastructure which includes a Further Education College, six secondary schools and a number of smaller training providers. 

  • Over 30 industrial estates with over 5,000,000 sq. ft. of business floor space. 

  • An excellent ICT broadband infrastructure. 

  • Active links with Durham University. 

  • An established group of Engineering companies working on enhancing competitiveness and raising aspirations. 

  • A One-Stop-Shop Training for Industry Unit in partnership with Employment Service.
