Aim:

To support the development of local education, skills and enterprise


Objective:
To enhance the capacity of secondary schools.
Action
  • Creation of an executive position to support secondary schools in project development, communications, co-ordination of resources and business liaison.

Derwentside Association of Secondary Heads.
Impact by 2010
  • Firm industry and education business partnerships established.

Objective:
To promote an enterprise curriculum.
Action
  • Neighbourhood engineers introduced to establish industry & education partnerships.
  • Enterprise Initiative Programme.
  • ‘Schools Engineering Challenge’ initiative established as an annual event.

Derwentside Engineering Forum.
Impact by 2010
  • Increased local students entering graduate level.

Objective:
Developing Intermediate Enterprise.
Action
  • Six half-day themed workshops per year - to develop key skills and promote integration of ideas.

Derwentside Training for Industry Unit (DTIU).
Impact by 2010
  • 200 unemployed people into employment.
  • 900 existing employees trained in new/enhanced vocational skills.

Objective:
Enhancing Vocational Training and Recruitment.
Action
  • Identification of suitable unemployed people and delivery of basic
    employability workshops.
  • Training needs analysis and baseline skills development workshop
    delivery by local training providers.
